Sigiriya, Kandy and Polonnaruwa Tour Itinerary

Day 1
Welcome to Srilanka
Meet & Greet with Guide with traditional Welcome & transfer to Hotel.
Upon arrival check-in at Hotel [Standard Check-in time at 1400 Hrs at Hotel]
Colombo City Tour: Tour will begin from the Fort area of Colombo which has been named fort because of it being a fort during the times of Portuguese and Dutch. Later we will take you to Colombo National Museum to see some of the great specimens of arts crafts and archeology of Colombo.You will drive thru the commercial areas and drive past Pettah, a colorful Oriental bazaar with a mix of people, ancient vehicles, bargains, mosques and temples. You have a chance to see a Hindu Temple, Buddhist Temple and the Jami Ul Alfar Jumma Mosque of Colombo.Continue your tour of Colombo through the Wolfendhal Dutch Church, Hulfts dorp Law Courts as you drive along the residential area of Cinnamon Gardens, and also visit the Independence Square and Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Hall.

We will visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage: This is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants, located at Pinnawala village, 13 km northeast of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa provine in Sri Lannka. Pinnawala has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world.The orphanage was founded to care and protect the many orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation
Dambulla (UNESCO World Heritage Site): The Golden Dambulla Cave Temple has been a pilgrimage destination for the past 22 centuries. It’s also the largest and best- preserved cave temple on the island (there are others).The Dambulla Cave Temple was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 in order to preserve the magnificent wall paintings and over 150 statues in and around the temple.Overnight Stay at Hotel in Dambulla
Day 3

Today we will make excursion to Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa
Sigiriya (UNESCO World Heritage Site): The rocky outcrop of Sigiriya holds the ancient remains of King Kassapa’s palace from the 5th century AD.The top is reachable by stairs built on the side of the mountain and features the Lion Rock and the remains of the palace and fortress. Visitors will see the magnificence of the place when they reach the top, complete with a 360-degree view of the jungle below.The water reservoirs that collect rainwater are still there and in good condition. Sigiriya was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.
Polonnaruwa (UNESCO World Heritage Site): After the destruction of Anuradhapura in the 1st century, Polonnaruwa became the second capital of Sri Lanka.The remains include Bhramanic constructions from the Cholas civilization as well as the garden city that was constructed on the site in the 12th century.Polonnaruwa is part of the Cultural Triangle, along with Anuradhapura and Sigiriya. This site was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.

We will drive to Kandy and upon arrival check-in at Hotel
Later we will proceed to visit Kandy (UNESCO World Heritage Site): Kandy, a mountain city in Sri Lanka, was home to the Sinhalese kings from 1592 to 1815. It is also the site of Sri Dalada Maligawa, also called the Temple of the Tooth, as a special container holds a tooth of the Buddha.Over the years, the relic came to be very important politically; the belief was that the holder of the sacred tooth was the one who would have power over the Buddhist population.The Sacred City of Kandy was appointed the status of World Heritage Site in 1988, mainly due to the Temple of the Tooth.

Nuwara Eliya: The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. Samuel Baker, the discoverer of Lake Albert and the explorer of the Nile in 1846, founded the city. First-class Train Ride which is one of the best train rides in the world from Nuwara Eliya (Nanu Oya) to Ella.
Train Time will be informed on the previous day (Approx. in between 10.30 – 11.30)
Ella: About 250km away from Colombo is the picturesque hamlet of Ella in the Badulla district in its hill country charm.It draws attention for sites associated with legendary tale of the Ramayanaya, including the Ravana Ella, and Ravana cave.One of the highlights of visiting Ella is the Ella Gap that affords one of the most breath-taking views of the terrain after a hike up the Ella Rock. You can also plan other easy-goingexcursions and encounter waterfalls along the way.

Yala: Yala combines a strict nature reserve with a national park. Divided into 5 blocks, the park has a protected area of nearly 130,000 hectares of land consisting of light forests, scrubs, grasslands, tanks and lagoons. Two blocks are currently opened to the public.Situated in Sri Lanka’s south-east hugging the panoramic Indian Ocean, Yala was designated a wildlife sanctuary in 1900 and was designated a national park in 1938. Ironically, the park was initially used as a hunting ground for the elite under British rule.Yala is home to 44 varieties of mammal and 215 bird species. Among its more famous residents are the world’s biggest concentration of leopards, majestic elephants, sloth bears, sambars, jackals, spotted dear, peacocks, and crocodiles.

Tangalle visit: Tangalle is the gateway to the wide- open spaces and wide-open beaches of southeast Sri Lanka. It’s the last town of any size before Hambantota and has some old-world charm.But you're really here to find your perfect beach, and there are several nearby. Tangalle is located 195 km south of Colombo and 35 km east of Matara. It has a mild climate, in comparison to the rest of the district, and sandy beaches.

Galle (UNESCO World Heritage Site): The Dutch built the fortified town ofGalle in the 16th century.It sits approximately 130 km (81 miles) south of Colombo and is a town worth visiting. Thick stone ramparts, which were built to protect the goods stored there during the times of the Dutch East India Company in the 17th and 18th centuries, surround the historical buildings and churches.The entire fort has been a UNESCOWorld Heritage Site since 1988.
